For those of you who don’t know me, I’m a big WWE fan and Wrestlemania is the granddaddy of them all! In 2006, 2007 and 2008, I had the day off work (paid!) and I’m having tomorrow off paid too! So with ‘Mania in mind, I thought I’d post the matches and my thoughts on them. This is going to be long so be warned!
WWE Championship:
Triple H (c) vs. Randy Orton
I honestly think that this one could really go either way. Orton has gotten under Trips’ skin and in his head with the attacks on Vince, Shane and Stephanie but Triple H isn’t in a triple threat match against guys with submission moves. To be honest, I really can’t decide either way which way this one will go but at the moment, I’m leaning towards Triple H.
World Heavyweight Championship:
Edge (c) vs. John Cena vs. The Big Show
I’m going for Cena in this one. He’s the only man in the match with his eyes on the championship gold whereas Edge and Big Show have their eyes on Vickie Guerrero.
Intercontinental Championship:
JBL (c) vs. Rey Mysterio
I’m going for Rey Mysterio in this one. If you believe the stories about JBL, he’s set to retire from the ring again because his back is bothering him again. I’m not a big JBL fan, even though I still have a video of him at the Wellington show I went to in March 2006 where he was trying to get us to sing God Bless America. I’ve had a bit of difficulty getting into this particular feud but I’m hoping that it will end at ‘Mania.
Money In The Bank Ladder Match:
CM Punk vs. Christian vs. Mark Henry vs. Kofi Kingston vs. MVP vs. Kane vs. Finlay vs. Shelton Benjamin
One of my favourite matches. I don’t think CM Punk will win, being a previous winner of it Dark horses in this one for me are Kofi Kingston (who has a nice arse
) and Shelton Benjamin but my pick is Christian.
Extreme Rules Match:
Jeff Hardy vs. Matt Hardy
Jeff Hardy all the way in this one. He’s more of a risk taker than Matt and he’ll show it in this match.
25 Divas Battle Royal – Winner Crowned Miss WrestleMania:
Melina, Maryse, Gail Kim, and Natalya would definitely be contenders for this one as I really can’t see the Bellas, Eve, Maria, Kelly Kelly, Alicia Fox, Tiffany, Rosa Mendes, Layla etc winning it.
Winner Takes All – WWE Tag Team Titles vs. World Tag Team Titles – Unified Tag Team Title Lumberjack Match:
The Miz and John Morrison vs. Carlito and Primo Colon
I’m more of a fan of Carlito and Primo but I honestly think that The Miz and Morrison will win this one. Of course, the lumberjacks will have something to say about this one but yeah, Miz and Morrison for this one.
Legends Match:
Chris Jericho vs. Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka, Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat and Rowdy Roddy Piper w/Ric Flair
Hmmm… eeny, meeny, miney… WOOOOOOOOOOO! The Legends all the way. I loved Jimmy Snuka and Roddy Piper when I was younger and that hasn’t changed as I’ve gotten older.
The Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels
Another match that really could go either way. Mr Wrestlemania against the Phenom with the streak (currently at 16-0) on the line. I liked Shawn Michaels when I was younger but not now so I’m definitely going for The Undertaker (I’m biased too as I’ve had the privilege of holding his hand too!)
