  1. Things are shaking and rolling

    July 16, 2009 by Stephanie

Quake sparks NZ-Australia alert – yes, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake (upgraded from the initial 6.6) struck southern New Zealand at around 9.22pm yesterday. I was not long home from having dinner and drinks with some of my friends from tech when I noticed that my cat was acting strange. The house started creaking a lot more than normal then it started moving.

Since the initial quake, we’ve had aftershocks registering 6.1, 5.9 (this one woke me up just after I fell asleep at around 1.50am so I’ve basically had a crap sleep), 5.3 and 5.5. Luckily, we’ve had no damage to the house so far and my mother, the cats and myself are fine. Still, it was a little scary. No one was hurt and that’s the main thing.

  2. WordPressing

I’m going to try and make my own WordPress layout for the site. I took some photos of the Southern Alps from the plane on my way home from Auckland and have decided that I want to use them in a layout some how.

I have Tuesday through to Friday off work this week (I’m sick of that, believe me!) so I’ll be spending some time working on it then. Hopefully. In between playing Scarface on the PS2!

  3. Auckland

Wow. I’ve been back from Auckland for a couple of days now and I’m still reliving the whole experience. From the sky gradually getting darker the further north we ventured, to the cabin lights of the plane being switched off as we were coming in to land in Auckland, to the seemingly endless walking I did on Friday, to the show on Friday night, to getting to touch Triple H (and getting that on video), to flying over the snow-covered Southern Alps when on descent into Christchurch on the way home… I’m simply glad that I got to go.

I honestly thought that I wouldn’t actually like Auckland but to tell the truth, I did like it. There is a lot more to see and do there compared to my home town, especially when it comes to shopping. I’ll be waiting until the cows come home before I ever see a Gucci or Louis Vuitton store down here which basically means I’ll die waiting. Seeing Auckland from 186 metres and 220 metres above the ground was amazing (I went up the Sky Tower to do that). It’s a very spread out city. I think that I will definitely go back there at some point, simply to spend more time there and it really doesn’t deserve the reputation it has in New Zealand.

Pictures and such will follow soon. I’m off to look at my videos again, heh.
